Interview with Toni NientiedHow did your hunt for species start?
Through my dad
What is your coolest species and how dit you catch it?
The bonito I caught is still on the dutch record list. Caught by trawling in the mediteranean. Besides this the greater amberjack in Mexico is one of the most spectacular catches. This was with trawling live bait (blue runner as bait). And the halibut in Norway, even though it is small for its kind, I am very happy that this one took the shad after catching a ton of cod.
Do you ever go abroad to catch new species?
Which books or websites do you use to look op your fishspecies.
My dad is my database to go to.
Do you have a fishing buddy who likes specieshunting?
How often do you visit specieshunters.com?
It would be more often if there was an app.
What are the most important items that a species hunter needs when fishing.
Variety in gear. Different sizes hooks are key, especially if you want to catch some micros
What was your best specieshunting trip/mission?
Difficult to say
What was your worst trip/mission?
8 hours of trawling in Ecuador for the wahoo with one strike and missing it. It was a very slow day.
Finding out that the part of the amazon I visited was illegal to fish. That could jave produced many species.
Which websites do you visit tot study catch reports?
Google the area I am visiting and that gives a big variety of websites. There is not too much available on south america.
